Katie’s Answer

My ex-fiance is an entertainment lawyer with an LLM in intellectual property, and he specializes in bands who peaked during the 1980's. He fights ugly legal battles. His first case was defending a substitute drummer who had gone on tour with a rock band that got sued.

Also, you need to know that crime is a huge problem in the music industry. My ex was not a criminal law attorney but his clients leaned on him to handle their criminal matters anyway. When we broke up he was defending a rocker who had been convicted of assaulting three different women.

Katie recommends the following next steps:

Go to college to prepare for law school, and intern at an entertainment law firm. After graduation get a job as a paralegal.
Go to law school and specialize in intellectual property.
Team up with a criminal lawyer so that you'll be prepared when your clients get arrested for committing stupid crimes.
