Carol’s Answer

Hi Nasir

While I have not recruited specifically for film editing professionals, I have found that the best way to find out about any career is to go online and ask. There is information out there that will tell you what people do in certain careers, other sites that might describe a typical day in the role, jobsites with openings and job descriptions as well as salary ranges for the positions, etc. YouTube may have videos explaining the same. If you look at multiple sites, look for consistencies in what they say. This should help you feel more comfortable that the information you are reading is accurate.

I used Google and typed in your question. Here is what I found so far to get you started.

Hope this helps. Feel free to reach back out.

Carol

Andy’s Answer

Hi Nasir!

There are several roles within a post-production office. These are not limited to data wrangling, assistant editing, digital coloring, production house management, etc. If I were you, I'd look into requesting to shadow a production house or news station or consider applying to be a production runner or intern. It's a great position to see how each role handles their daily workflow.

Jara’s Answer

Yes there are different positions, but also different roles within the "editor" category. You could be a video editor, graphics editor, special effects editor... the list goes on. It depends on your focus or skill level.
