John’s Answer

Hi Dylan,

People do not generally receive money for the likes that they receive nor for the views. Most actually do not get paid at all for their videos. Some very dedicated people have been able to monetize their videos and/or live streams through partner programs with companies like YouTube or Twitch. For YouTube videos, the content for monetized videos cannot contain any copyrighted content (such as a copyrighted video game). Twitch is all about sharing your gameplay, though, however, it required the person to be a successful broadcaster with a following before providing stream monetization opportunities.

Regarding your comment of not many people playing Call of Duty, did you know that Black Ops 3 was played for over 75 million combined hours just over the weekend that it was released?
