There are prerequisite courses required before acceptance into most nursing programs. It took me 1.5 years to fulfill my prerequisites. It then took me 4 years to complete my Bachelors degree in Nursing (my program also included certification as a Public Health Nurse).

There are still 2 year Associates Degree Nursing programs out there as well.

After high school it takes a 4-year university degree to become a registered nurse.
