David’s Answer

To answer your question; advertising photography is the highest paying photography. But, I would ask you what do you like to shoot? What interests you? What are you passionate about? I would not recommend going into an area of photography just to make the most money. Find your passion and follow it.

Thank you comment icon I agree with David and would add that you should never stop learning and developing your skills. Be open to opportunities. One always leads to many more. You'll know which field is the most successful for you when you get there. It may surprise you. Dennis Cox

Gage’s Answer

If you really want to make a venture into photography, do not go into it thinking about what will earn you the most money. If you make thousands but shoot advertising photos all day, it'd make me miserable and I'd probably lose my mind. Find what you're passionate about and chase that area, become the best at it. When everyone sees how much better your photos are than the rest, how passionate you've become about your subject, thats when the money will come.

Jazz’s Answer

Hi Colby!

I think it is best to pray for a career that will be beneficial to you in the general perspective. I love photography but it is a very costly hobby so practically you will need to be financially capable of buying gadgets and eventually might have an interest in going places to take good shots of great landmarks/people. Having an interest in photography meant you are likely to be an adventurous person. So travelling is a second nature to this hobby. Find a good practical career and I'm pretty sure once you start earning, photography will become a more enjoyable hobby or second job for you.

In my opinion, you don't need to make it your priority career goal. A lot of photography seminars are easily available. Having a solid profession plus a skill will give you more edge in your future. :)

Mostly wedding photography and senior portrait photography is a high paying portion. Advertisement photography is also a high paying part but its also very hard to get into/stick in.

Joseph’s Answer

B and H puts out a lot of long videos on Youtube. Most photography questions are answered there by working professionals. Some are successful with the minimum equipment required to take a picture, so never let money dictate what you can do. Everyone has to start somewhere.

My advice is to learn from the pros, practice a lot, and try to master every discipline. Not many people can afford the top photographers in the world to come and shoot them, but if you can get similar results using their same techniques, you have a good chance at making it as a photographer.
