What are the different careers in the medical field?
I'm kind of interested in the medical field, but I am unsure about the different types of jobs in medical field. I want to know the different types of nurses/doctors or other medical related positions and what each position does. #doctor #nursing #medicine #nurse

Medical fields are numerous and depend on your interests, educational goals and abilities. You can become a doctor which takes four years of college, four years of medical school and a residency in the field you choose. You can become a nurse which can be done as a four year college program or through a community college program. You can go into various medical tech fields either as a medical assistant, a surgical assistant, an ultrasonographer, a phlebotomist (drawing blood), an xray technician, or other ancillary medical personnel. You can become a pharmacist which requires four years of college and several years of a pharmacy PhD program. Or a Physical Therapist which also requires post college work.
There are also many health related fields such as hospital administration, drug sales, drug development and others.
If you are interested in medicine then you should decide on your career path in terms of whether you want to do a four year college and post graduate work or whether you want to go into a medical tech position and go to community college or a specialized training program

I agree with Carol on all suggestions and would like to add this: In many states, you can train to become an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) at the age of 16. This training may be free if you become a member of a volunteer fire company and make a commitment to serve in that company. Many nurses, physician assistants, doctors, and physical therapists I know got their start riding the ambulance as an EMT. It is a good way to learn anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
