Affordable online school for accounting degree?

I’m a former college student and now I’m looking to go back to school. I want to complete my bachelors degree on Accounting. But due to my personal situation I can’t attend traditional college. So I’m looking for affordable online school from where I can complete my degree.

San D,

The world as you know it is becoming faster and more time consuming. I think it is great that you want to go back and continue your higher education in order to obtain a degree especially one in accounting. From the mid 1900s until now America has always needed accountants within their institutions now they are a main staple in the lives of entrepreneurs and businessmen. Online courses gives you time to create, retract and analyze prudent conclusions for your assignments along with critique from educators and fellow peers. Western Virginia State University, Athens State University and or American Public University System are just a few institutions that offer online accounting courses and degrees. I wish you the best on your journey.

Hi San D,

One of the most affordable and quality option is a state school. I currently attend a state school and am benefitting as a resident. Many state schools offer in-state tuition, financial aid and online accounting degrees. Another resource that I would highly recommend is to make use of CLEP exams to fill up on extra credits required for an Accounting degree. These are low cost ($100 for 3 -6 credits) and save a lot of time. This resource can be of help if you are pursuing a CPA and need extra college credits.

Good luck!

Community colleges are a great resource for getting classes that are inexpensive but still a proper learning environment. There are various lessons also available for free on youtube, udacity, and other online courses that are a simple google search away. Education has become expensive at established colleges, but there's never been more free educational sources online so depending on topics of interest definitely take a look, even if it's digestible 10-15 minute youtube tutorials.

Community colleges offer credits that can transfer to traditional 4-year colleges, and it's entirely possible that you could end up attending a 4-year for a heavily reduced price if you diligently apply to scholarships while attending cheaper learning routes.

Hi,

Louisiana State University has an online program within their accounting degree where you can take a number of courses online. The credits are reasonably priced but you may be able to find a less expensive option at a local community or junior college.

Thanks,

Lauren

Hi San,

It's great that you want to get an accounting degree. I followed a similar path in that I had to go back to school to get an accounting degree. As Ophelia suggested, community college is a great option. I finished my basic accounting courses at Santa Monica Community College online. Many community colleges offer their first year accounting courses online.

What you may also want to look into are extension certificates. For example, UCLA and UC Berkeley have offer online certificates in accounting.

Best of luck,

-H

Hi!

A very affordable option is also attending community college. Some of my best and most engaging accounting professors were the teachers that I met during my time at CC. If you live in the U.S., a typical path is to start in community college and then transfer to university. By taking this route, I was able to graduate with zero student debt. Community colleges tend to be less costly than universities - even online universities. When I attended, there were many courses that were offered online as well. Community colleges can also ensure you get the proper credits to transfer to a university that is recruited actively by accounting firms (something an online university may not offer). Hope this piece of advice helps!

Thank you comment icon Community colleges are a very good option indeed. I obtained some missing credits at Foothill college online. https://www.foothill.edu/ Masha Zhandalinova
