What are some good colleges that offer journalism majors?
I am an English lover, but I also love writing about my experiences and places I have traveled. So, I have decided to consider majoring in journalism. Any suggestions? #journalism #college-majors

I like Emerson and Syracuse because their programs force you to actually get out there and do it. The Emerson network is amazing, and most of the professors are former professionals in the field.
I'd make sure whatever program you do select has a strong marketing/PR department as well. One of the best ways to go about Journalism in this era is through the blogging networks, and partnering with someone to create your own online medium.

The link already offered from College matters is a good place to start if you want to look at a pure journalism degree, though in this age of technology, a more comprehensive communication-media program may offer more diversity.
Keep in mind as well, many writers that have your similiar interest often are those who have specific interests in various areas of "travel". Studying cultural diversities, wildlife, ecological issues and other areas in majors or minors such as sociology, environmental studies or similiar areas might help in getting the background needed for future career placement in the travel/communications field.

Off the top of my head, Northwestern and NYU are considered to have great programs.
Here are a variety of lists:

Keep in mind this does not really have to do with pursuing a career in journalism, which I would consider to be a different question. Most professional journalists do not have a degree in it.
But, if you are set on majoring in journalism, the above should give you some idea of which colleges to consider.

I'm biased because I went there but the University of Missouri has a fantastic program that is very well considered in the profession, and also has the advantage of being a state school in a cheap (but fun) place to live. The Missouri Method means students learn by doing at a local newspaper, NPR station and NBC station (with accompanying websites of course). Lots of opportunities to develop professionally beyond the classroom and a killer alumni network. Other reputable schools are Northwestern, UNC-Chapel Hill, Columbia NY (grad school only).
If you're thinking about a career in journalism, bear in mind that it's a struggling industry and only for the passionate and committed. That said, the skills of a good journalist (a critical, analytical mind, a sense for relationships and interpersonal communication & good writing) are particularly valuable in any industry. It's important to have an entrepreneurial spirit and constantly learn new skills. I started as a newspaper reporter but now work in tech. My current job didn't even exist when I graduated 5 years ago. And I'm having a blast! Good luck to you, Daneesha!

Hi there,
Northeastern University in Boston has always offered a unique take on journalism, with its co-operative education program. Students work in their field for six months of the year. The best journalism students get to work at the Boston Globe. It gives you a massive advantage as you graduate, to already have paid experience in your field. Beyond that, NU has changed its curriculum to include computer science, coding, design, etc., keeping up with the massive changes in the news business. Graduates leave prepared no matter what. Really worth a look. Good luck!
