Tia’s Answer

I've been in healthcare for over 10 years and it's been rewarding professionally and financially. If you're interested in learning more, I always encourage students to start by volunteering.

Tia recommends the following next steps:

Research healthcare careers via the internet, books, etc. I have a book that may be of interest - https://amzn.to/2Clo78D.
Start volunteering at a hospital or doctor office near year.

Christine’s Answer

I've worked in healthcare on the "industry side" for nearly 15 years - that is, for companies that make products that doctors use or that provide healthcare services. When I thought of healthcare, my mind used to automatically go to careers where people directly care for patients in the traditional sense, and I had never even thought about the many companies and people that create products and services that allow those doctors and nurses to provide the care that they did. Personally, I could not get over the idea of dissecting animals through Biology class so I knew taking the clinical path of being a physician was not for me, but there are numerous ways to still work in healthcare to ultimately help patients and advance care.

Christine recommends the following next steps:

Consider what is it specifically about healthcare that interests you and then research online for career opportunities that span beyond the traditional paths we consider.
