Rachel’s Answer
The typical student is 22 years old. This is the time that most students have completed their high school education followed by a bachelor's degree. There is no age that medical schools directly say they are looking for on the application. We had a student turn 50 in my medical school class.

Hi Shaleah, very interesting question! So most medical school students are aged between 22-26, some can even be 21 which is on the younger side for med school. However age doesn't really matter in pursuing your dream of being a physician. There are many different paths individuals take, I once had a classmate who was a freshmen in college at the age of 24. He wanted to go to medical school but after high school he took a couple gap years then began college. My brother also had a classmate in medical school who was in his 60s; his dream had to be put on hold when he was younger. If you have the drive and love for the field then age shouldn't be an obstacle to pursue it.
Best of luck!

If you have the prerequisites for medical school, then you may apply for medical school. Look online for the prerequisites of the medical school that you are interested in going to. I know that some students take premed courses while still in high School. If you have the intelligence and the calling check into a University or College near you and find out about their Pre- medicine program.

Unless you skip multiple grades, it would be difficult to complete the premed requirements and a college degree before age 20. I would be surprised if medical schools currently allow students younger than 18 to enroll.

Farhaad’s Answer
Our medical school (like most) did not have a minimum age requirement. The younger students were 21-22 during their first year; the average age of first year students was 24-26, and some students were in their 40s when starting.

Shaleah G,
There is no age limit on receiving instructions in knowledge and skill. If you feel you are ready and have the time to receive the discipline that comes with training in the medical field then go for it. I wish you the best on your journey.

Typically students in the US are around 22-24 years old when they begin medical school. There is no age limit (I was 20 when I started and my oldest classmate was 38).
First you must graduate high school. Next obtain a bachelor's degree from a university. The college degree can be in any major, but students must complete a set of prerequisites. These vary slightly between medical schools. Also students take the MCAT before applying.
It is also becoming increasingly common for students to take a gap year after college.
