Barbara’s Answer

I got my GED after having my 3 children. I was accepted into the nursing programs at two of the top schools for nursing in the Northwest. One for my BSN and the other for the BSN-MSN program.
Remember a GED is equivalent to a High School Diploma. The goals of the GED and the HS Diploma are the same. A general foundational education.

Geraldine,

Of course you can become a registered nurse with a GED but in most states you can't become a nurse without graduating college. Finanial Aid is always there to help you to reach your goals. 2-3 years which will fly by quickly and you will be a registered nurse. I wish you the best on your journey.

Emma’s Answer

Hi Geraldine,

Yes, it is possible to become a Registered Nurse (RN) with a GED. However, there are specific steps you need to follow to achieve this goal. First, you will need to complete the prerequisite courses required for entry into a nursing program. These prerequisites often include subjects like biology, chemistry, and anatomy. Once you meet these course requirements, you can enroll in an accredited nursing program, either at the associate's level (ADN) or bachelor's level (BSN). Be sure to choose a program that is accredited by recognized nursing accrediting bodies.

Upon successful completion of your nursing program, you will need to pass the NCLEX-RN exam, which is a standardized examination that assesses your readiness to practice as an RN. Passing the NCLEX-RN is a crucial step toward becoming a licensed RN. Finally, you will need to meet your state's specific licensing requirements, which can include background checks and other criteria. While a GED is a valid alternative to a high school diploma for pursuing an RN career, it's essential to research and communicate with nursing programs and your state's nursing board to ensure you meet all educational and licensing prerequisites for your desired path to becoming an RN.
