What are my responsibilities as a Nurse anesthesiologist

A nurse anesthetist is an advanced practice nurse who administers anesthesia for surgery or other medical procedures. Nurse anesthetists are involved in the administration of anesthesia in a majority of countries, with varying levels of autonomy. A 2002 survey reported that there were 107 countries where nurse anesthetists practice anesthesia and nine countries where nurses assist in the administration of anesthesia.

some of the responsibilities of nurse anesthetists:

  • Administering anesthesia during surgical, therapeutic, diagnostic, and obstetric procedures
  • Performing epidural, spinal, or nerve blocks
  • Providing care before, during, and after anesthesia
  • Examining patients’ medical histories for allergies or illnesses to ensure safe provision of pain management
  • Discussing any contraindications or side effects of anesthesia with patients
  • Monitoring vital signs during medical procedures
