Elizabeth’s Answer

Yes. Some basic surgeries can take up to twelve hours. However, once you are a skilled surgeon, the procedures may become shorter, quicker, but a surgeon is guaranteed long hours in the Operating Room. To be a surgeon you must have a very steady hand, a flexible schedule, a good memory, and a lot of time. The most simple of surgeries can take up to eight hours. Some surgeons go seventy-two hours with no sleep, as they are on call.

Elizabeth recommends the following next steps:

Finish your BA and make sure to take Anatomy, Biology, and Chemistry!
Get your MD.
Find a clinician, doctor, or surgeon you can learn from, maybe a mentor.
Practice. Practice.
