Carla’s Answer

I was in the military, but not the Corps, I was in the Army. Honestly the worst part for me was being away from my family. I had come to expect that the military would be physically and mentally draining, but it's that way by design so that those lessons can help build you up and prepare you to handle any situation that may arise. The other worst part was the food, but after a while you get used to it.

Kim’s Answer

Savanna,

You don't want to know the worst parts! You will get through it! Especially if you want to be a Marine. I have worked with some Marines, and they had some stories. . . But the training is designed to keep you ALIVE. To instill in you a sense of self-confidence, so that, even if your entire platoon is wiped out, you will persevere and complete the mission. There is no such thing as failure. You will come to believe that you are Wonder Woman, Superman, and Spiderman all wrapped up in one. And you will also learn to trust your fellow Marines with your life. Please do not psyche yourself out with fears.

I know this does not answer your question. I was a career police officer, and being a female in a male's world, quickly learned not to show fear or weakness. I was never in the military. Hopefully someone else will answer this question for you.

James’s Answer

I am currently in the Marines. There are many challenges that you will face everyday. It starts with Basic Training. It is longer and supposedly harder than other branches (that of course depends on who you ask.) Being away from your family can be trying. I am stationed in Japan, had a family tragedy occur, and was unable to be there for it in time. It breaks your heart. That is all part of the sacrifice. You are going to be pushed daily, both physically and mentally. It is rewarding. Remember that when making the decision on whether or not to enlist.
