I am a second year B.E.Mechanical engineering student,on my graduation on 2021 ,will there be demand for mechanical engineers?

Shall I do my P.G in mechanical engineering?

Thank you comment icon Hello Mohamed , If you would like to choose Teaching as a career path , then my suggestion is to decide higher studies. If you want to work for a companies , Then try to do the additional courses available for Mechanical Engineers . Example , CERO , UG-NX , CAD, TEAMCENTER ( I dont know all course names ) there are lot of courses available to become design engineer in mechanical field. I could see your location is chennai, There are lot of companies in chennai for mechanical engineers. So try to get practical experience by doing some additional courses and try to apply for internships. Through that you can easily get into the mechanical field companies. Bharathi Krishnan

Ravindar’s Answer

Hello, I am excited to know you are pursing an Engineering degree in Mechanical discipline and I was exactly in the same situation 3 decades ago. Yes, some of the core engineering courses have always high demand such as Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and of-course now Computer Science. With more focus on automating manual processes in pretty much most of the industries, efficiency and productivity needs are very high to meet the growing demands. For this we need Engineers like you who can come up with innovative ideas to build, automate and increase productivity in every industry. For examples: In increasing agricultural equipments, Robotics, Shipping/Delivery, Transportation, Process industries, Manufacturing etc... the list is endless

Ravindar recommends the following next steps:

Identify which industry or area you are passionate about to contribute and make a difference.
Apart from your core course material, spend time reading, researching, acquiring more knowledge in that industry / area. Find what is working well and what problems needs to be solved.
Do Internship during college break time to gain real industry experience and what does it look and feel like! This real life experience would identify and guide towards your passion and your future.
Funnel Model: Be open to identify opportunities from various sources, but narrow your focus on what really excites you and go deeper in learning and experimenting in that area.
I started off my career in designing almost all types of equipments and systems you can see in a Refinery, Petrochemical, Oil and Gas Industry for example. My colleagues are still working in the same nature of work and at top level positions in those industries.
