I am an engineering program manager for Dell Technologies. My values are suggested by my occupation and the company I work for. Dell's culture code is based around five values that are designed to guide our actions and behavior at all times. If we follow these values we can expect to work in a positive environment where everyone feels empowered and part of the team. The five values are listed below.
- Customers: We believe our customer relationships are the ultimate differentiator and the foundation for our success.
- Winning Together: We believe in and value our people. We perform better, are smarter, and have more fun working as a team than as individuals.
- Innovation: We believe our ability to innovate and cultivate breakthrough thinking is an engine for growth, success, and progress.
- Results: We believe in being accountable to an exceptional standard of excellence and performance.
- Integrity: We believe integrity must always govern our fierce desire to win.

What a wonderful question - I want to applaud the fact that you're thinking about how you would want to approach a new career, what you would bring to the table, and what standards you want to hold yourself to.
I began by working to identify what characteristics matter the most to me as a human being living on this planet (regardless of what career you end up in, these values are universal). To do that, I thought about 'Who are my friends that I like to spend the most time with? What is it about these friends that make me feel drawn to them?' We often surround ourselves with people who hold characteristics that we admire, or want to be more like, which is why I started here.
What I found was the following: I'm drawn to people with strong self-confidence, an open mind, a creative mind, and a curious mind. From there I thought about what larger themes these were a part of... namely Integrity, Authenticity, Inclusivity, and Perseverance.
Along with that, many companies also have their own set of Company Values defined which are usually referenced on their Careers or About Us webpages. When I'm searching for a new job, I often look at the standards the company holds itself to, and when I find alignment, I apply for that job.
Hope this helps! Go forth and strive to bring your best to the table every day :)

Hello Ben,
That is a great question! As a software engineer, here are my values:
- Friends and family. I believe someone already said this, but I wanted to re-iterate this point. At the end of the day, a job is just a job. Your relationship with your friends and family will outlast your job(s).
- Cooperation. You aren't going anywhere without help of other people. Whether it is your direct co-workers or people who you interact with indirectly. Be courteous, be kind, and be humble. Ask for and give help.
- Keep learning. You must keep growing, no one person knows everything. It is also important to learn outside your normal career. You never know what you learn can help solve future problems.
- Practice. Use what you learn to solve problems, whether real world or theoretical. People may know how to code, but not all of them know how to solve problems. That will help separate you from the pack.

Hi There,
This is a great questions! First of all, I think whatever values you carry with you to into your career should be upheld in your everyday life as well. For me, staying true to myself and who I am (so bring your authentic self into your workplace/future endeavors). With that also comes the willingness to grow and learn (even the CEO's of fortune 500 companies constantly do research to become better CEO's). You can be an expert in your field, and still not know everything you need to know. So remain humble, but with that, you must hold yourself accountable. You will make mistakes along the way and you will never know the answer to everything, so as long as you keep true to yourself, have accountability for your actions and learn from them to become better and grow, you will be just fine.
Hopefully, that was helpful! Good luck!!
