Best Creative Tech

What are the best kind of devices to take on the go for art/writing/anything artistic? I've heard you should get devices that have no internet access and then others say to get devices with lots of fancy apps. Advice? #writing #college #art #writer #tech

Kevlin is correct in recommending the Microsoft surface. What he didn't go into is why.

The surface is a laptop and many apps don't work or work well on a mobile/tablet unless you are online.

I use both PC and Mac and there really isn't a difference in performance until you get into the top of the line pro apps. That is when you go desktop.

Not all off Adobe CC will work on the lower end laptops off line but none of it is really going to work off line on a tab. The same with Avid Media.

My choices (totally biased) are Adobe CC for art/drawing/graphics

Avid Media Composer for music/recording /composing/pod cast/VO

and Writer Duet for writing. (downloadable to laptop, PC, Mac with a pro account)

Avid has a great free student v. with tutorials and classes. Adobe also has some free student.

I don't know about WriterDuet. I've been pro since the start but it's really inexpensive. $12-15 mo. no other costs involved.

David recommends the following next steps:

Check the specs requirements for each app
Take the time to research prices.
Don't be afraid to contact the companies, Avid, Adobe, Writer Duet, etc.

I love using an iPad, though it's pretty expensive. Procreate has been a great user friendly way to get into digital art and it has a lot of features that expand beyond just drawing. You can animate/make gifs, paint digitally, format comics, and so on. There are also a variety of apps you can use for art that are available on an iPad tablet.
