how would i become a film & video editors

My sister is a film editor so I can speak from her experiences. She went to an art school and majored in film editing. She joined student clubs that allowed her to practice making and editing films outside of her classes. She had internships at different companies working in their media departments and would on her own time, create animated shorts and upload them to her personal website. When she was interviewing for jobs, companies wanted to see the pieces that she had worked on and edited as examples of her work, so having a personal website was very important for her to have. I think most important, she filmed everything, all the time, to gain as much experience as possible. Best of luck!
