Jay’s Answer

Everyone has different factors that they consider in what they like most about their job. They consider their experience, field, flexibility, pay, culture and team. What's most important to consider here are which of those factors weigh heaviest when they look back on their day and they think about what made them the happiest.

Mallory’s Answer

The culture of the company/team is what I like most about my job. I've been in positions where the team isn't collaborative or supportive and I don't get along with my boss. I've switched jobs and the same role at a new company, with a great culture and great boss, is so much more rewarding.

Mallory recommends the following next steps:

Shadow family or friends at different companies to learn about what kinds of different cultures are out there.

Jim’s Answer

I enjoy the people I work with and the company I work for. It is very important when you begin your job search to understand your intrinsic and extrinsic motivators, this will help you select a job role that brings you the most natural reward for the time you invest away from your family. It is also very important that you look for a company that is a good match with your own values and that you feel proud to work for.

When you find a good fit in these areas and you are doing work that interests you while allowing you to put your strengths to work you will find yourself more likely to love your job and the people you work with.

Jim recommends the following next steps:

Take some time to think introspectively about your intrinsic and extrinsic motivators and the values you hold and document them as you work through your education and career development plans.

Carmen’s Answer

I have been in different positions since my graduation from university.

In my first job, the part I liked most was learning opportunities. I was engaged in new tasks everyday, and I could felt my professional skills growing up.

In my current job, I enjoy the flexibility very much. I can get most of my jobs done in the morning or night, depends on my availability, I can balance work and life.

I think different person in different stage may enjoy different things. The key is, what do you want to achieve in short term or long term. What's your inner driver?

Carmen recommends the following next steps:

Do a self reflection, understand what you want, what you have, what's the gap between the status quo and the goal
List out action items following SMART principle
Tracking the progress and make adjustment if necessary
