Chris’s Answer

Try and do courses with Coursera.org and other platforms in packages such as Tableau. This will give you an idea on how to do analysis on some existing use cases.

Palash’s Answer

Hi Vardhmaan,

Its nice to see your interest in Data Analysis as the field is growing very fast, and people are constantly looking for new ways to solve our problems.

While it is difficult for me to say about the future, from my own research, a Data Analyst can take on multiple career paths according to the interest or goals. Business analytics and Data science are two streams that are next to Data analyst. There are other roles too which one can make their specialization, like Database administrator, Business systems analyst, Machine learning or a Specialist in creating visualization. In govt. sector too, research is going on to improve public policy.

The field itself is growing rapidly and staying up to date with the trends/tech can help in the longer run. There are websites, blogs, contests and online communities centered around it, which are great for the learning and development. Another way to stay ahead is looking at the job descriptions of positions which companies are seeking to fill. The skills and responsibilities in these descriptions are the additional areas to pursue for development and can provide an idea for the earning potential too.

These are some of the ways by which I started my own learning but there can be more.

Thank you and let me know if I missed any point.

Best wishes.

to be successful in Data Analytics career path, you would ideally need the following :
1. Patience (lots of it, especially when you are going through pages and pages of numbers)
2. Determination (always remember that numbers are logic....if the numbers do not match up, there has to be a reason behind it)
3. Story-telling skills (getting the numbers together is only step 1. What is the numbers trying to tell you ? Whats the story that you are trying to present/prove, thats where the power of the numbers is)
4. you have to love numbers (understand that the numbers put together is trying to tell you something)

Once you have the above, you most likely would enjoy your career path in Data Analytics, like me !

Mark’s Answer

Some great preceding comments.
For me the common thread amongst Data Scientists is very strong Coding skills in Python, R, C and Databases. In addition high levels of Mathematics and Statistics are important in understanding the Machine Learning algorithms that you may use for your work. Intimate with your data and research topic.

A burning desire to explore and tear apart your own ideas. Be comfortable with getting other folk to critique your work and results. Be prepared for a lot of false results and many long nights :)
