Tejuoso,

Volunteering/interning will always guarantee that you can find an opportunity in any field you are interested in. You can volunteer in an organization dealing with health advocacy to get near your goals. Get on social media and get involved with public policy discussions. Your main focus should be getting involved in fields dealing with economy, industry and citizens. I wish you the best on your journey.

Great question! Volunteering/Interning can be a great benefit in your finding a career you wish to choose. It's a relatively open way of gaining both experience and understanding in a field. Don't be afraid in volunteering at multiple fields but give enough time for you to gain an educated opinion. Best of luck!

Jim’s Answer

Great question! An Honorable goal, I am a board member at a local food bank/shelter where i live. I find it very fulfilling to help when I can. Getting started is simple, look for non-profits in your town. You will be surprised how many volunteering opportunities are our there. When I volunteer I will do anything they need, from washing dishes, serving food to cleaning up. So go with an open mind and heart. Your help will be much appreciated.

Thank you comment icon Thank you, I think I need to be more open minded than before.. I just have a passion of contributing to my larger society. Tejuoso

Melisa’s Answer

Hi Tejuoso,

What a thoughtful question. Great advice here from others. And I would also add that volunteering in your community can help grow some meaningful connections to help you in your future goals. By volunteering, you are working alongside others in your community that may have different types of careers and even potential job opportunities. It is also a chance to just expand your network of people you know and who can possibly help you in your future career goals.

You can find out volunteer opportunities through your school, church, local non-profit organizations and online by searching helpful volunteer event focused websites.

Best wishes for success in your education and career goals.

Melisa recommends the following next steps:

Check out http://greatnonprofits.org to search for volunteer opportunities near you and hear what others have to say about their experiences.
You can also find volunteer opportunities at http://volunteermatch.org
Consider learning more about Corporate Social Responsibility and how companies are engaging employees in volunteer efforts in our world. Many companies, like the one I work for, have robust volunteer offerings for their employees so they can help in their local communities.

Fiona’s Answer

Think about what your interests are. For example, are you interested in animal welfare, children, poverty etc. and find organisations that work with those groups. This is a great attitude to have, and you will certainly learn a lot, including about yourself, by volunteering.

Hi Tejuoso:

It's awesome that you want to volunteer. As others have already shared with you some great suggestions you can't go wrong with any of their advice. Just decide on what you are passionate about and want to do. It's great that you have a serving attitude and it will definitely serve you well as you get older; just keep it up. 👍 I hope you find that right opportunity. Best of luck to you!
