Anna’s Answer

In order to become a veterinarian, you must go through a 4 year Bachelor's degree program and a 4 year Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine program. Your bachelor's degree should focus in a biological science (i.e. biochemistry, microbiology, evolutionary biology, etc) and incorporate a few advanced science courses (e.g. mammalogy, zoology, animal behavior, etc.). Once your bachelor's degree is complete, you will need to take the GRE exam to be accepted into a veterinary school. Once in veterinary school, courses will focus in anatomy, nutrition, physiology, virology, pathobiology, diseases, and other animal-specific groups. This is also where you will be required to participate in many research studies and science lab experiments. Learning how to diagnose illnesses and perform surgeries are important skills when becoming veterinarian.
