Hi Madelyn! You are asking about a great field - health and well being is important to everyone and it is a growing need as our population grows and we all age.

There are a few levels of work in the Physical Therapy field that you should be aware of, each with their own schooling requirements and salary ranges.

According to US News and World Report (and they also reference the American Physical Therapy Association), "PTs in training now receive a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Programs are typically three years, and usually require proof of a bachelor's degree before admittance. Most DPT programs include courses that range from biology to exercise physiology to finance. There is also a clinical component to these degrees. After graduating with a DPT, physical therapists might choose to complete a clinical residency or fellowship to gain more practical experience. There are also additional certifications for PTs hoping to specialize. " Note, a bachelor's degree is typically a 4 year degree, so you are looking at 7 years of schooling before additional potential residency or fellowship.

Keep in mind that salaries do vary in different parts of the country, but the same report shows the national average salary in 2017 was $86,850.

As I mentioned earlier, there are a few different levels of PT work including Physical Therapist Assistants and Physical Therapist Aids. Again different requirements and salaries for each.

Brian recommends the following next steps:

I encourage you to read the full reports and references on the US News and World Report site for the various jobs in the Physical Therapy family of jobs: https://money.usnews.com/careers/best-jobs/physical-therapist https://money.usnews.com/careers/best-jobs/physical-therapist-assistant https://money.usnews.com/careers/best-jobs/physical-therapy-aide
