Hi Alex, photographers gain their technical and artistic skills through a variety of ways, if you decide that you want a degree in photography it could take up to two years to obtain a degree. Photography courses are offered at many community colleges from wildlife photography to landscape photography it just depends on your interest. You can develop your skills by taking fundamentals of photography, and also by getting a mentor that specializes in photographer. Hi Alex, I think you have to delve a little further into what type of photography you want to do. You could be an event photographer, or a freelance portrait photographer, or even a fine art photographer! Once you decide which direction you want to go then you can find our more about how much money those jobs make. Hope that helps.

Hi Alex,
There is no definitive answer to your question. You have to learn how to use a camera, produce a portfolio of your images and identify and contact potential clients. Depending on your skill level and the genre of photography you pursue, that could take at least a couple of years. To build a big enough business to provide a living will probably take four to five years. Anybody with a camera can claim to be a photographer. To be a working professional, making a living takes years of learning and dedication just like any other profession.

Wedding photography is very lucrative, and calling up some photographers and talking to them will give you the advice.
