criminal justice

The television show criminal minds has also strikes my interest. I have read a question similar to mine and also the answer. I currently know the process necessary to become an FBI agent and to get to the NCAVC. Is sociology a good major to study to become an FBI agent or behavioral analyst? What skills should I have and what majors should I study or be good at to pursue this career? #criminal-justice #criminal

FBI does not hire until people until you are 23 years old, have 3 years work experience and a college degree. The work experience does not have to be in law enforcement. Sociology is a good degree but that would be better used if you were a street cop. Many FBI agents have degrees in finance, business, computer science, and criminal justice. Some are even English majors. My direct report is a retired FBI supervisor. Lastly , what you see on TV is never what it is like in real life. A career in law enforcement can be very exciting and rewarding, but the key to happiness is to have a job that you enjoy doing every day.

Please keep in mind nothing is what it seems. What you see on tv is tv acting not the real deal. In order for you to really see if it is something you would enjoy i encourage you to maybe seek groups of people that are in that career that can actually talk to you about what you will be doing and maybe give you some additional helpful hints. Also go to some colleges and ask what does a criminal justice major do. Also it depends where you want to work? and who you work for. I would even go so far as to call a few businesses the Human resource department and ask what is all included for the position so that you have a idea and are able to make a better determination if this is for sure what you want to do or not. College is expensive so it helps to be well prepared and knowledgeable from the beginning instead of changing majors several of times. Good Luck , Great Question.

Thank you comment icon Thank you for that clarification. I love those shows as well but they definitely aren't an accurate representation of daily life/routines in that field. Andrea
