Erica’s Answer

Hi Cam,

I don't know much about the gaming industry, I do now that there are careers to be made there though. My friend's brother has a job testing video games looking for defects before the games are released. In the end credits his name shows up for the contributions he made. If your hobby is gaming and you have a passion in this industry, it may be worth exploring for careers. There are a lot of jobs like software development, computer programing, technical support, market research etc. Honesty/integrity play a key role with many careers. If you can merge hobby and career you might find a position you love and are extremely successful with. I would recommend researching the different positions in the gaming industry to see if anything is of interest and identify steps to take to enter that job market.

Best of luck!

Erica

Ryan’s Answer

You will be surprised how much "gamification" is involved in todays business and competence building. So, IF you are looking at gaming perhaps looking at an education company or orgs that build decision making skills through gaming. Being that honesty is a corner stone to your mindset, perhaps you can also look at companies that service first responders who use gamification to build the skills of first responders.

Judy’s Answer

Hi Cam! Your question grabbed my attention. Honesty and gaming are a great combination for a number of high tech jobs. For example, I work for a large corporation that is the leader in Network Security. I know a systems engineer who started his career in our high tech industry because he was obsessed (in a good way) with gaming. As he developed his skills from hobby to coding and designing games, this eventually led years later to a position as Chief Technical Officer and Chief Research Scientist. There is a huge shortage of technical engineers right now worldwide. That is a field I would suggest you look into because with data breaches, hacking, and threats going on in the cyber world, your characteristics could be an excellent fit.

Judy recommends the following next steps:

Search on career sites or technology company sites for network security jobs. Read through the job descriptions for entry-level and see if you might be able to build an education plan towards that.
