Carmen’s Answer

To rank a company is very subjective, try to do a research for the company, the values they focus, the vision and mission. Ideally you want to be identified with the culture of the company and there, you are looking for an opportunity to excel. It doesn't work if you just focus on getting into any company, you need to have a link with it, a passion with it.

Corynne’s Answer

To figure out the best company to be a pharmacist, you should determine what your interests are and what "type" of pharmacist you'd like to be. There are different settings/companies a pharmacist can work in. For example, a pharmacist could work for a hospital, retail pharmacy, and pharmaceutical company, just to name a few options. Pharmacists can also specialize in certain areas such as diabetes, oncology, geriatrics and work directly with patients in outpatient or inpatient clinics.

Steven’s Answer

Arriana - one of the greatest things about being a pharmacist is that there are so many different career paths to take! Retail and hospital pharmacy are the most common and obvious, and those are great choices, but there's more! Insurance companies like Blue Cross, Aetna, Cigna, etc. hire many pharmacists to help manage pharmacy utilization for the insured members. Pharmacy benefit managers like Express Scripts and Optum hire hundreds of pharmacists to help with anything from mail order fulfillment to answering member questions about specific therapeutic classes of drugs. More and more, physician groups are employing pharmacists to help the physicians navigate insurance formularies and spend time with patients to answer drug questions.
You can also branch off into areas like pharmaceutical sales, or pharmacy benefit account management.
Good luck!

Toni’s Answer

The best company to work for depends on what path in pharmacy you decide to take. For example, retail, hospital, clinical, research, emergency room trauma, oncology and nuclear medicine. This is only a few career options. When considering a place of employment the best place to work is where your needs are best met. Are you looking for good health insurance coverage, better pay, good working hours, retirement, etc. It is also very beneficial to read other employee comments about the company you are looking at. These are usually posted with the job postings.

Best of luck,
Toni Oringer, Pharm D
