I totally agree with Julieta . You can start from some basics like:

While you install the finer optics cable you need to be aware of multiple things like :

1) Installing the fiber underground or overhead(Arial fiber) .
2) It will have different ways to secure from bend and fiber cut so should need to be aware of it.
3) All the fiber should be properly tagged or in case of outages , it becomes difficult to identify the correct customer connected over the core.
4) Precautions to take when splicing and also termination near buildings.
5) Fault finding using OTDR or optical power meter and how to isolate section by section.
What is are different types of fiber (SingleMode/Multimode)

What are the splicing mechanism exist ( mechanical /Fusion Splicing )

In case you need any further details to get the above, please reach out to me .

Julieta’s Answer

Sure you should have, and not only about tools and machinery but also about theory in fiber optics, like how does FO works, what are they made of, what kind of FO exists and how are they used, what's the functional differences between them, what organisation define their standards. Also about prices, who make them, who sell them, potential customers, new trends and technologies etc.

The more you know about an activity for a job, the better. That has always worked for me and for other successful colleagues that I know.
