What courses should I take in high school, to be prepared to go into the medicine field?

I want to go into the medical field, but in my high school there's accelerated courses like AS Chem and Chem. However, I'm not sure what I should take.

I would suggest taking biology, chemistry, math, anatomy, physiology,. In my opinion each of these science and math courses are difficult but if you truly study and work with the teacher/ professor you can succeed in the classe(s), and your dream job. Good luck !

Elizabeth,

As Sarah mentioned, and of these core and applied science classes would be helpful if your heart's set on learning to practice medicine, such as working as physician or PA. I would also add some non-science classes or short courses to make sure -and demonstrate- that you're well rounded in your education, such as public speaking, ethics, and psychology.

Good luck!

Thank you comment icon Thank so much Hwal; in my high school, we are able to take AS (advance standing) classes, but next year I am going take 2 AP classes and I'm also going to be in Algebra II/ Trig, and I want to take AS Chem, but I'm no sure if i can manage it. What are some tips that I can have in order to balance my academics with my social life? Elizabeth
Thank you comment icon You're welcome, Elizabeth. I see you can take AP classes..I remember taking a lot of CLEP exams, which are kinda like AP classes because many colleges accept them to give you transfer credits as you transition to college/university. In terms of trips, you could ask around to see if any of your friends or classmates have taken AP classes and about their experience. It's great that you're proactively thinking about balancing study and social life, because it's so important to have that balance! :) see how you're handling the workload now, to decide whether to take on extra study. Once you decide, always make sure to make time for things that are not related to study, whether it's taking a walk, nap, chatting with friends, listening to music, etc. I hope this helps. Hwal Lee

Take as many AP or IB courses in high school. You have a lot of years of education in front of you and getting college credit in high school can save you time and money.

Take as many high school science classes as you can to help your grades in college.
