Mark’s Answer

Catching Fire is a good website to look for projects. It has a search tool that you can use to search by skills, length, and causes. Below is the link to the website:

Good luck on finding projects that energize you!

Thank you comment icon Mark: thanks for sharing the website - catchafire.org. Now you got me curious to see how I may volunteer for these non-profit organizations online. Jackson Ku

Heine’s Answer

There are some internships like here at Cisco. Cisco is changing from a networking company to a software defined company. I work here as Software Architect, a lot of good people working and learning here. Check this link: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/about/careers/working-at-cisco/students-and-new-graduate-programs.html

You can also work with schools as said before. Be interested to help and learn is the key.

Pedro Jesus’s Answer

It really depends on what is your intent by doing this.

If the intent is to learn, fortunately, there are a lot of pages that you can use in order to leverage your technical knowledge such as udemy or edx:

https://www.edx.org/

https://www.udemy.com/

Or you can even consider to join to an internship program with a company of your interest.

If the intent is to do something as a "giving back" activity, then, just as Jimmy mentioned, there's always people that would require some technology assistance where you can apply your skills to help others.

Jimmy’s Answer

If you are in school, your school's IT department might need some assistance with projects, if you prove that you are serious. If you are in college, your college's IT department might provide part-time jobs for students who are interested in technology. These could provide a pathway to working on cloud computing projects or getting experience with linux.

Other local organizations in your community may be in need of technology assistance: community centers, churches, and others may need help with their websites, local network setup, or other needs.
