Hello Yazmine. The operating room (OR) consists of many individuals making up an important team to ensure a patient undergoes a successful surgery with minimal to no complications.
Some positions in the OR include: sterile set up , cleaning, and steriliziation staff, OR techs who perform many roles during the surgery such as handling of instruments, sutures, and ties with the surgeon and his/her first assistant., RN who circulates and keeps account of the surgery and items used to avoid losing something during the operation (ie gauze and instrument counts etc.), keeps family alerted to condition of patient etc, anesthesia (anesthetist and/ or anesthesiologist team), puts patient to sleep and wakes them up, handles cardiac emergencies; OR assistant who move patient on and off gurney and provides BLS assistance etc. ; quality assurance team to ensure proper procedures followed, pathologist who examines specimen for cancer etc...….. and I am sure there are more that could be added. many opportuntiies in this field.

While there are many different team members in the operating room, I can give you the perspective of a surgeon who performs cases in the operating room. A typical week would include two days of clinic and three days of operating. At least one of those days would include taking ER call in which you would be available for surgical emergencies. In the morning, prior to clinic or the OR, you would round on your hospitalized patients and make sure they were doing well.On clinic days, instead of going to the operating room, you would report to your office and see patients to assess whether they need an operation or to check up on them after they have already received an operation.
