Hi Caryn, what a great field to consider.  An associate's degree or training program in cosmetology is required most states require cosmetologists and make up artists to have a state license check out your state for the requirements. If you enroll in a cosmetology program you will learn the art of makeup application, hair cutting, styling and skin care.

There are many aspects to beauty, so its helpful to decide which field you'd like to work in. Hair will require a cosmetology license. For makeup, some states don't require a license, but if you are interested in SFX, you can attend a makeup school that covers that. If you'd like to work with skincare, an esthetician license will be a great asset.

I would recommend reaching out to a few cosmetology schools and programs that you are interested in applying for! There are many course options available to cosmetology students.

There are esthetician programs offered by cosmetology schools as well that focus on skin care and makeup. Waxing, manicures, pedicures and massage are a few options that may be available at the school or program you decide to pursue. Reaching out to the school can help you better understand what courses are available and required for what you wish to achieve!
