What skills and abilities are needed to preform well and successfully as a civil enginee?

I would also add that there are some specific skills that Civil Engineers need to develop in order to be successful, including attention to detail, spatial reasoning, performing research, and (can't emphasize this enough) effective verbal and written communication.

Hi Terrance, this is a great question! Leadership and communication skills are very important to civil engineering, however,  technical skills are extremely important you must be skilled in map reading, reviewing blueprints, design techniques and computer aided design (CAD) software. A  civil engineer must be good in math, physics and technical  writing.  In order to be a successful civil engineer you must have the top five skills - communication, critical thinking, leadership, project management and technical skills.
