Flight Operations at an airline is the department that actually makes the airplanes move and usually consists of the pilots, flight attendants, and dispatchers. Flight Operations is a highly exciting career field.

Flight Operations department and Engineering and maintenance department are the heart and guts of an airline business.
Flight Operations department consists of following sections.
1. Director Flight Operations, Chief Pilots and Line Pilots.
2. Scheduling section to schedule flight crewmembers for different flights on calendar monthly basis.
3. Manual section to keep Jeppessen and Aircraft Operating Manual up to date.
4. Chief Pilot Training to keep the crewmembers licenses and initial and recurrent training up to date
5. Technical Support Section to keep track of irregularities happening on different flights and crew performance.
5. Then there is section called flight despatch which is responsible for making flight plans for flights departing every day and calculating fuel requirement and briefing crewmembers about forecasted weather at departure, enroute and destination airfields.
