Sankkara Narayanan’s Answer

Before I can start giving you advise on your college department selection, let me get a few important things out of the way. First of all, congratulations and all the best for your high ambitions. Second of all, you need to work a lot. Spend a lot of time practicing what you know. Now those out of the way, lets start with your question.

In India choosing between CSE and IT has only subtle differences. As their names suggest, CSE (Computer Science & Engineering) is a little bit more inclined towards the Science of Computers/Computing. And IT does not have that little bit of inclination toward research. So my suggestion is to go for CSE.

Also spend more time in researching and finding out about new things in computer science and computer technology. Computer science, unlike most other sciences is very dynamic. Given the fact that, communication and co-operation is the key to growing fast, and the Internet is the fastest and effective means of communication yet, computer scientists and engineers have an advantage over all other fields because they are objectively more saavy in using the internet. So Computer science is very fast growing. You have to keep up, and the only way to keep up is to invest time.

Again all the best for your life goals.

Neeraj’s Answer

Honestly, It doesnt matter which branch you choose as 80% of the topics taught in both streams (atleast in India) is the same. You may make up on your lack of knowledge on the other topics by referring the internet. Dont worry about the branch, focus on getting your computer science fundamentals perfect : operating systems, data networking, database systems and practice programming and data structures and algorithms constantly.
