Estelle’s Answer
I have been practicing gynecology for 30 years. It's a fantastic job that allows me to care for others, educate, comfort, and often provide answers and cures when I'm lucky. Every day is interesting and full of activity....never boring. I get to take care of women of all ages, and perform routine care as well as surgery. The road to becoming a doctor is long and requires lots of work and dedication, but the rewards are definitely worth it. Lots of jobs are available. My days are spent rounding on patients in the hospital, seeing patients in the office, and performing surgery one day per week.

The best medical practice to get into is the one you have a love or passion for and there are so many of them. Also remember that in medical school you will rotate through different specialties and this will help you decide what kind of practice you want to go into

Radiology is an exciting and dynamic field. For me personally, the procedures are the most exciting. For example, we recently introduced Y-90 radioembolization at our hospital. This provides a new opportunity to treat liver cancers and prolong lives.

I am biased because I am a surgeon and am very grateful for my job. I enjoy operating on a patient and providing an almost immediate fix to what was previously a life-threatening problem. There is great satisfaction that comes with taking a person from "cancer patient" to "survivor".
