Mary’s Answer
Hello Terrell,
Keep in mind that the informational interview is simply a conversation between you and someone who holds a job similar to what you are seeking to possess. Your goal is to gather information. Be sure to do your research on the company (google company info) and the person (check LinkedIn profiles, etc.) you will be speaking with, if at all possible, prior to the informational interview.
A few potential questions that you can ask are:
Why did you choose this career?
What is it like to work for (company name)?
What does a typical work day look like for you?
What are your most difficult challenges in this role?
What do you wish someone would have told you before you started this career?
What do you find most rewarding about your role?
How do you see this role changing in the next 5 to 10 years?
I hope you find this helpful. I wish you much success in your future endeavors!
