Estelle’s Answer

I agree. Take as many AP and dual credit classes as you can. Make great grades because learning to study and focus will definitely help you in college. Also, this might be a good time for you to volunteer at a clinic and get some good shadowing experience. There is a local clinic in my area that allows college students to scribe for the providers. This is a great way to get involved early in medicine and get great experience while learning the vocabulary of medicine.

Nija’s Answer

Hello Paisley,

It is great that you are thinking about your academic and career future. You seemed to have your mind made up about being a doctor, which is great. Continue to work hard and strive to obtain good grades because colleges strongly look at your grades in 9th, 10th, 11th and part of 12th grade. You can consider taking more science courses as a way of preparing to become a doctor. Start thinking about volunteering at a hospital so you can learn and see first hand what doctors do. There are many medical specialities to consider when you pursue the medical field. What inspires you to be a doctor? I understand that you are so eager to be a doctor but just take your time and pace yourself by getting through high school with good grades. Think about the colleges and scholarships that you would like to apply to. These are things to consider to prepare you to the road of success. Good luck to you and wish you much success, future Dr. Paisley D.

Nija recommends the following next steps:

Continue to work hard by studying and getting good grades.
Consider volunteering at a hospital so you can learn and understand the day to day activities of a doctor.
Take more science courses.
Set up a meeting to speak with a guidance counselor or a college counselor to begin academic and career planning. Also, have a conversation with your parents.
Create a vision board that describes the goals that you want to accomplish.
Thank you comment icon Thank you! Paisley

Rachel’s Answer

AP calculus, bio, chem, and physics are all excellent preparation for the pre-med classes. If you have seen this information before, you will have a better chance of getting an A in the class in college.
