Do you have to be a police officer to be in Criminology?

You can get a hard science degree (i.e. chemistry or biology) and become a forensic scientist, which is what I did. Other options include psychiatrist, psychologist, corrections, juvenile corrections, court systems, and so much more!

Hi Eduardo. We have a cop in the family. He has a high school diploma and a couple years of various jobs, but he applied and was accepted into the state police academy when he turned 21 and is now a full time police officer. We also have another family member who is interested in criminology and is majoring in that at college. She has only academic experience and no police experience. If criminology is of interest to you too, you might want to investigate opportunities to get some exposure to real life, cop-in -the- street situations to be able to relate better if you pursue criminology. Or if there is a Police Cadets program (usually high school age) near you that would be a good idea to look into. Good luck at what you do.
