It looks like a process. Wikipedia defines it quite well. All the different stages of the BAU. Becoming a psychologist is an excellent idea. You can actually apply for a masters or doctorate in behavior analysis. Do you think that may look good on your FBI application? I tell anyone that wants to be a profiler, or work in a BAU, is to work in a psychiatric hospital. It’s not likely that you will come right out of college and go to a BAU, or even the FBI.
There are three famous FBI profilers, that have all written books. The content of those books, gives you a great idea of how to become a profiler. John Douglas, Candice De Long and Roy Hazlewood. Be cautious, with the last author’s content, for they are mostly the analysis of sexual related crimes. At the end of one of John Douglas’s books, he lets you be the profiler, in the last chapter. I think it’s the “ Anatomy of motive” book. That’s quite inspiring.
Remember to say out loud and in the mirror, what it is that you want. Say it on your own voicemail five times. The only person trying to throw you off from what you want, is you. If you really want to be an FBI agent, start buying those cool looking business suits now. There is a famous person in my business, that has a motto, “No fear no doubt.” Use that one going into this. Fear and doubt are brother and sister. Get rid of them both! You’ll do fine.
