I don't think you need a specific major to be a firefighter. My cousin was a volunteer firefighter during high school. There were other people he knew that were full time firefighters as well. I think you should contact your local fire department and ask to stop by and meet some of the firefighters on staff. They will be happy to provide advice on the specific steps to become a full time firefighter in your city. I would think there is a training course provided at the city, county, or state level.
