Rosheana,

Besides what Nija mentioned, another common way for people to become CNAs is through training on the job, as long as there are healthcare facilities where you live that is willing to train someone who is not yet a CNA. Personally, I competed a training program at a community college that was about 4 weeks long, before taking a certification exam. You might want to consider looking up or asking hospitals or long-term care facilities in your area to see what qualifications they would like you to have for employment so that you're absolutely sure what you need to do to qualify for a position.

Good luck!

Nija’s Answer

Hi Rosheana,

I hope you are doing well. It's great that you want to become a CNA and the field has created a lot of job opportunities to provide a service to people. First, you must have a high school diploma or a GED. Then, you have to attend a CNA program for a about 4-8 weeks and complete the program successfully. Finally, you must study and prepare to take the state exam to become a certified CNA.

Nija recommends the following next steps:

Volunteer at a healthcare facility.
Communicate with CNAs in the field and ask questions.
Continue to do your research.
