Jacquelyn’s Answer

After a typical 4 years bachelors degree, some people proceed directly into vet school (which is another 4 years) while others may do internships, shadowing, and/or complete a masters degree prior to the completion of vet school. So it can take anywhere from 8+ years!

Kelly’s Answer

After you do pre-reqs, you need a specific amount of hours of experience to apply to a school (these are usually posted on the school's website) but basically the more hours the better. Once you are in veterinary school, it takes 4 years of course work to graduate. The last year is spent on hands on practice at a hospital. Once graduated, you will need to take a licensing examination in order to practice in the U.S.
