Ross’s Answer

The only thing typical about the job market is that it keeps on changing.

For instance, your physiotherapy career probably has changed over the past few decades, and may have not even existed! For example, social media managers and data analysts are something that is in demand now; compared to telephone operators or librarians. Then there are others that have been re-imagined by technology and circumstance like couriers/delivery people or cooks/chefs.

My job typical, but not quite. I work with spreadsheets and use code to create tables and summaries to help my boss make business decisions -- and this is something that a lot of businesses do. What's unique about it is the tools that I use and the context at which I look at the data. Some of the tools that I use now are more sophisticated that allow me to work faster and present my data using beautiful tables so that my boss can easily understand them. Also, I look at the data based on what would make customers happy, as opposed to just what makes the business money.

As you start your career, learn as much as you can while keeping in mind that things will change. The better you are able adapt, the more successful you will be in whatever field you choose.

Judith’s Answer

On-Line Marketing sales is a challenging and rewarding field to work in. There are many competitors but few have the wide range of products that Hearst Media Services offers. If you have a strong moral compass and are dedicated to offering the rights products to your clients, it is rewarding. It helps when you invest in understanding the products you are selling and what impact that will have on your customers. This will differentiate you from sales people who just pick up the phone and call with a clever pitch. It also helps to invest in the community you live and sell in. Become involved in networking groups and share your knowledge. If you enjoy meeting new people, this may be a career path for you.

Judith recommends the following next steps:

Choose the organization that best suits you.
Choose an organization that stands out and is financially secure.
