Scott’s Answer

A job as a painter can be a great way to get your foot into the construction business. I know a painter who has expanded his business into general construction. He still does the painting, but he also acts as the general contractor for complete home renovations, where he contracts out and oversees all aspects of home improvements/construction.

Brian’s Answer

Hi Johnny! You're asking a really important and insightful question - what people earn for a certain line of work is both dependent on the nature of the work (skills, training, experience and availability of qualified people) AND where the job is.

There are a few pretty great pages to get information on the various kinds of Painter specializations and earning potential based on location that I will link to below.

One thing to keep in mind, beyond supply and demand for a specific skill, an important factor to consider is cost of living in that area. Your cost for housing, food and transportation in Maine is going to be very different than say New York City or Los Angeles. The range of cost of living is pretty broad so keep that in mind too.

Brian recommends the following next steps:

Check out Painters info on Glassdoor: https://www.glassdoor.com/Salaries/painter-salary-SRCH_KO0,7.htm
And check out info on Indeed.com https://www.indeed.com/salaries/Painter-Salaries
