Susanne’s Answer

It will largely depend on the type of business, type of industry, number of employees, etc., but your responsibilities may generally involve supervising other administrative employees, being responsible for any maintenance or repair work that needs to go on in the office, and some Human Resources responsibilities. Job advertisements will usually detail the expectations for the job.

Susanne recommends the following next steps:

What can you expect from Office administration role? A lot, actually. It's a role that helps the a company/department in so many different ways. It's the connections and problem-solving between staff, leadership, and community that makes it great. You do a little of everything -- thus, it's never boring. Email, phone calls, plan fun team activities, coordinate travel, set -up meetings, order supplies, ensure all meeting spaces are ready (room is clean, laptop, projector and arrange the copies, food orders) are just a few examples of how you'd spend your day.
