You can learn what each medication is primarily used for and memorize it with practice. I was a pharmacy technician for a few years and learned a lot from the Pharmacist about medications. He would read the literature that comes with new medication to see what it was primarily was being prescribed for but he also had the Physicians Desk Reference or PDR nearby and would look things up since there are so many medications available. You might talk to a local Pharmacist to learn more.

There are many of medications out there, with new ones being approved all the time. It can be difficult to learn EVERY medication but you can learn the common ones relatively easily. Often, medications are broken down into different "classes" (such as NSAIDs, etc) and by learning a "class" of medication, you essentially learn a few medications at a time because they typically share similar key features. In addition, there are plenty of online databases that pharmacists, doctors, nurses, etc can use to quickly look up information on any drug, so you don't necessarily have to have every drug memorized.
