Kimberly’s Answer

It depends what type of position you seek...Entry level ($10-12/hour) you don't need college credits or previous experience but you do need a clean background (no criminal history beyond traffic infractions). Some companies require that you have a vehicle and valid drivers license. You will probably have to agree to a urine (drug) test prior to being hired as well. Hope this helps

Kimberly recommends the following next steps:

Look up the company you want to work for and they will probably list their requirements on their website.

Jason’s Answer

There are many different subsets of "security" someone can get into. For example, I work in corporate executive protection providing protection for CEO's and senior leadership staff. Executive protection is typically a highly specialized field that usually requires prior military, law enforcement, high threat security training. Not only "hard skills" (weapons handling, defensive tactics, evasive driving, medical, taser, oc, handcuffing) are required but also "soft skills" (customer service, communication, teamwork, problem solving, emotional intelligence). All of these are gained through time and experience.

That is just an example of what I do, Kimberly said it well in that each job is different and you will just have to see what they require on the job announcement. I recommend getting a entry level security job, it may not be glamorous but form there you can build experience and network with other professionals. If this is a field you really want to peruse figure out what your goals are and how to work towards them. Many go into law enforcement.
