Hi Josh!

Was happy to see this question because my son is currently looking into welding as well.

If you are currently still in high school I would recommend starting with the welding program at your campus if it's offered. This is a great introduction to the tools and skills needed for this role.

There is an education component and certificates needed to be a professional welder. There are trade schools, state colleges or some of the major universities that offer the Journeyman Welding Program.

I wish you the best of luck and am happy to help answer anymore questions.

I would suggest trying to decide what type of welding you would like to go into so you can identify the necessary certifications and education needed for that particular trade. For example; underwater welding, high rise welding pipe welding.
