So I want to be an orthopedic surgeon, pretty specific, but I definitely don't want to wait 12 years! I was wondering if taking classes in the summer would speed up the process, or does it not really even matter at all? Or maybe it could speed up the process regarding the 4 years of college part (Before med school), but what about after that?

Sure, you can graduate from college in 2 or 3 years. This will be challenging, and may detract from your application if you have not maintained a 3.8+ GPA. You will still need to spend 4 years in medical school and 5 years in orthopedic residency.

Richard’s Answer

You typically cannot speed up medical school or residency because these trainings are very important for becoming a doctor, especially a surgeon. However, you can reduce the amount of time it takes by completing your undergraduate degree in two and a half or three years by taking summer courses.

Summer and winter minimester both will help you get to med school a lot quicker. This is however a very stressful process and will only work if your school offers the courses you need . I would suggest looking for schools that have dual programs or promise a shorter time to graduate..

Thank you comment icon Thanks I will definitely look into that. Thalia
